I got 3 new ASUS Z170A motherboard, they all stopped working after awhile, first one got defect ram slot, second one stopped working after a year, the third one stopped working after a week. ASUS z170a always have power surge problem. This MSI motherboard working stable all the time, never break.
I've had next to no issues with this board. Make sure to update the Firmware to the latest and greatest to ensure zero issues.
Easy enough menus to navigate through in bios.
Built a new gaming system based around this motherboard, a i5-6600k (overclocked to 4.5 ghz), Corsair Vengeance LED 3000hz RAM and my older MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4g video card. I've seen a few negative comments about the BIOS but I was easily able to overclock the CPU, RAM and without any issues at all. System is rock solid stable.

Pros Never break, good overclock experience, nice bios GUI, very stable, dope looking
Cons Not what I can think of so far

Pros Super easy to overclock CPU and RAM Looks nice Onboard audio is great Had everything I was looking for in a mo-bo
Cons Connecting USB 3.0 is buried by the video card Mobo temps seem to be reading a bit higher than expected (normal for a z170??, dunno)

Pros Quality look and feel; lighting effects in the board; easy overclock settings; solid software & driver support on product site
Cons IO cover is a bit thick in places; SysFan ports are a little awkwardly placed for my tower's config (Corsair Carbide Series SPEC-01); BIOS can be tricky at times
Summary This board was very easy to set up, physically (and the PCIe slots feel very solid), but the BIOS settings could be more user friendly, particularly for the M.2 ports (this board having 2 being a deciding factor in my purchase).
The physical manual outlines how using different M.2 configs will effect the SATA ports, but doesn't mention that ACTIVATING the M.2 ports is listed almost 100 pages deep in the PDF manual. This caused a lot of stress when I was trying to set up the OS in a drive that wasn't showing up. The fact that they are disconnected by default is odd considering that the M.2 compatibility is one of the highlighted features on the box... I also wish that the fan control could be split so the CPU fans reacted to CPU temp, and the System fans reacted to case temp (you can only pick ALL reacting to CPU or SYS temp).
However, once everything got sorted, I'm quite happy with the board overall, especially for the $220 sale price.
Pros Good overclocking ability, up-to-date BIOS with a nice layout that easily lets you see details
Cons A bit pricey, might be obsolete sooner rather than later since Skylake is so new.
Summary Great Motherboard that can be a good overclocking solution when paired with a nice CPU. Great BIOS with a nice layout that has a lot of information when overclocking, or even when looking at general motherboard settings. Nice look too, if you are into shiny lights.
Summary good motherboard, however there is so many problems on this motherboard. Many people are reporting z170a m5 issues on their MSI forum - USB may work sometimes - Need to test different BIOS version, computer randomly freezes in BIOS version 1.0-1.5; the best one yet should be ver1.6
Pros Looks great, great performance for the price point, overclocks easily, lots of options and ports
Cons no bluetooth or wifi adapter
Summary Amazing board. Always a big fan of MSI products and this one doesnt disappoint. Works very well with my 6700k, DDR4 dimms and a bunch of SSDs and support for M.2 if youre going that way. And its a looker.
Pros Decent price Full featured Good build quality Looks great Good audio Good overclocking
Cons Not exactly ideal stock BIOS
Summary I am pairing this motherboard with an i5 6600K. It's not extremely expensive, but comes with all of the features you would expect with a Z170 board, M.2 SSD support, USB 3.1 type A/C, etc. The audio on this board is actually really great, I thought that was kind of a gimmick but it sounds significantly better than my last board. Also the BIOS on this is really easy to navigate and setup your system, overclock etc. and having a raid controller built in is great (I have 2 SSDs in raid 0 for my boot drive). However the stock BIOS that came on the board was not very good, after I flashed it (which was a breeze with the in BIOS EZ flash) I am able to get a lot better performance. I currently have my i5 6600K x 4.6GHz with my memory running at 2800. Just remember that if you are planning on installing Windows 7 to upgrade to 10, you have to enable a feature in the BIOS (forget what it's called) in order to use your mouse and keyboard on the install, but remember to flip it off once you have installed! Overall this is a great board! I'm not sure what is happening with all of the negative reviews below, but mine works fantastic!
Summary Great looking and brought during sale, a bit of issue with cable management due to the rubber seal areas which blocked the front USB 3.0 port for my ATX motherboard. So the 2 USB 3.0 slots on the front of case not usable, probably gonna get a converter and make it work with at least USB 2.0
